Sutton United Disability FC vs Met Police
On Saturday, March 15th, 2025, Police Officers and Staff from the Metropolitan Police Service came to Cheam Sports Club to play a friendly football match against the Sutton United Disability Football Team. Kickoff was at 11 a.m., and despite being a very bright and sunny day, the players and crowd were feeling the mid-March cold!
The Met’s team, wearing Sutton United’s yellow kit, took an early lead in the first half scoring two goals in quick succession. Sutton regrouped quickly and pushed forward the attack, taking numerous shots on goal, but unable to break through their goalie - Paul “Chuckles” Hayward, one of the Sutton United coaches who stepped up to be in goal as the Met team didn’t have enough players for a full team.
After inspirational words from their coach at half-time, Sutton came out strong in the second half. Pressing the attack, they rebound a shot off one of the Met Player’s heads which ended up being an own goal. 2 - 1 and Sutton is making a comeback.
Sutton, in high spirits after that shot on goal, pushed forward again and managed to equalise with a powerful shot on goal. Both teams were playing hard for the win, but the final whistle blew and it was 2 all. Time for penalties!
Both teams played hard, but it came down to the final few penalties - with Sutton United beating the Met Police by a couple of superb goals.
